چکیده

An optical Fourier transform processor converts visibility data at its input to a sky brightness function at its output. Scattered light and spurious terms resulting from the method of encoding the complex visibility function as a real -valued and nonnegative transmittance result in errors in the processor output. In this paper, we discuss the degree to which each of these undesired terms degrades the signal -to -noise ratio of the output for different encoding methods and classes of images. We suggest alternative methods of encoding the input that greatly reduce the errors. Two particularly powerful methods of minimizing noise are "complementary weighting" and "bias equalization ". Two data dependent parameters are found to be most important: (1) the ratio of the meansquared visibility magnitude to the square of its maximum, and (2) the ratio of the squared maximum of the brightness function to its mean squared value.

Optical processor for the very large array (VLA) radiotelescope: system concept

Optical Fourier transform processing of radiotelescope visibility function data is reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the aspects of the processor design that arise from the unusual characteristics of the data. The complex visibility function is available only over a partially filled aperture consisting of a set of elliptical paths. It is recorded at the input to the optical processor on a carrier...

The new sample of Giant radio sources : I . Radio imaging , optical identification and spectroscopy of selected candidates

A new sample of very large angular size radio sources has been selected from the 1.4 GHz VLA surveys: FIRST and NVSS. This sample will be very useful for an observational constraint on the time evolution of double radio sources, especially their size, predicted by numerous analytical models of such evolution (cf. Introduction). In this paper we present radio and optical data for a large fractio...

Relics of Double Radio Sources

We have formed a new sample which consists of extended extragalactic radio sources without obvious active galactic nuclei (AGN) in them. Most of these sources appear to be dead double radio sources. These sources with steep spectra (α < -1.8; S ∝ ν) were identified using the 74 (VLSS) and the 1400 MHz (NVSS) surveys and further imaged using the Very Large Array (VLA) and the Giant Meterwave Rad...

Design and Implementation of Field Programmable Gate Array Based Baseband Processor for Passive Radio Frequency Identification Tag (TECHNICAL NOTE)

In this paper, an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) base band processor for a passive tag is presented. It proposes a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag digital base band architecture which is compatible with the EPC C C2/ISO18000-6B protocol. Several design approaches such as clock gating technique, clock strobe design and clock management are used. In order to reduce the area Decimal Matrix C...

Analytical Study of Optical Bi-Stability of a Single-Bus Resonator Based on InGaAs Micro-Ring Array

In this paper, for the first time to our knowledge, we investigate the optical bi-stability in a compact parallel array of micro- ring resonators with 5μm radius, induced by optical nonlinearity. Due to the nature of perfect light confinement, resonance and accumulation process in a ring resonator, optical nonlinear effects, even at small optical power of a few milliwatts in this structure are ...
